Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
